WIA-ENE-015 Phase 1: Foundation & Design

Phase 1 Overview

This phase covers the essential requirements and processes for achieving WIA-ENE-015 zero energy building certification. Phase 1 focuses on foundation & design aspects of the project.

Key Requirements

Comprehensive energy modeling demonstrating net-zero annual energy balance
High-performance building envelope (R-40+ walls, R-60+ roof, 0.6 ACH50 air tightness)
Efficient HVAC systems (SEER 18+, HSPF 10+, or equivalent)
100% LED lighting with controls
On-site renewable energy generation (typically solar PV) ≥100% of annual consumption
Energy storage system (≥20% of daily solar generation or 4 hours critical loads)
Building Energy Management System (BEMS) with comprehensive monitoring
Commissioning and performance verification

Documentation

Phase 1 requires comprehensive documentation including:

Architectural and engineering drawings
Energy modeling reports (PHPP or equivalent)
Equipment specifications and submittals
Testing and commissioning reports
Performance monitoring data
As-built documentation

Phase 1 Completion

Successful completion of Phase 1 advances the project to the next stage of WIA-ENE-015 certification. All requirements must be met and documented before proceeding.
